HelpaStudent.com Is Aiming To Raise One Million Dollars To Pay For Students In Financial Need
Students Are Trying To Solve The Problem Of High Tuition Costs In An Innovative way.
ANTIGONISH, Nova Scotia/EWORLDWIRE/Feb. 15, 2006 --- HelpAStudent.com was launched today in an effort to make education more affordable to all students. The goal of the site is to use the Internet to raise $1 million for students that need help financing their college education. The contest is open to students from Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, New Zealand and Australia.
Unlike most scholarships that are based on merit and scholastics, HelpAStudent.com places the decision in the hands of online voters. The process requires that students create a profile and write an elevator pitch about why they deserve the money. Visitors can then vote which students they feel is most deserving. The top 50 males and females will be entitled to the money which will generated through advertising. All sponsorship money goes back to students.
The site is designed to help students who are assertive, pro-active (inviting more people to vote for them) and creative in getting their story to relate with voters. In other words, it is a scholarship for leaders that highlights an individual's personality.
"We will make sure that there are no fraudulent and/or script-generated clicks," said Kellie Duggan, founder of HelpAstudent.com. "We review all the logs and implement sophisticated software to catch anybody who wants to artificially inflate their score and will manually review all the winners, so that only real students get the money."
Underlying the scholarship giveaway the organization strives to bring attention to the problem of ever increasing student debt and tuition fees. "It's becoming harder and harder for students and their families to afford a college education," said Duggan.
